How employees clock in and out
Pick the method that fits the job. Most teams use the phone app for field staff and a kiosk at the counter or job trailer for everyone else. All three write to the same timesheet.
1. Phone app with a GPS stamp on every punch
Employees install ClockOut Time Clock from the App Store or Google Play, or open it in a phone browser and add it to the home screen. One tap clocks in, one tap clocks out, and breaks are a tap each. The app records the coordinates and resolved address at clock-in and clock-out on every plan, including Free. Location is captured only at the punch, never off the clock. On Starter and up you can turn on geofence enforcement so a clock-in only goes through inside the work area, and auto clock-out when someone leaves. 2. Tablet kiosk with PIN or QR badge
Mount a tablet at the entrance, the counter, or in the truck. Employees clock in with their own 4-digit PIN or by holding a printed QR badge up to the camera. An optional clock-in photo gives a manager a plain snapshot to check against the name; there is no face recognition or fingerprint scanning. 3. Web clock-in from any browser
Office and front-desk staff can clock in from a laptop or desktop with no install. On Pro, an IP address lock limits web and kiosk punches to your workplace network, and a device lock limits punches to admin-approved devices.
What managers see
- Today view. Who is clocked in, on break, scheduled but not yet in, or done for the day, with the address of each punch and a running total of hours.
- Exception inbox. Missed clock-outs, late arrivals, skipped or short breaks, and approaching overtime collect in one queue on Starter and up, so review takes minutes instead of a text chain.
- Timesheet approvals. Approve each person’s pay period before it is exported, so payroll only sees reviewed hours.
- Payroll export. A generic CSV on every plan. Pro adds CSV files formatted for RUN Powered by ADP, Gusto, and QuickBooks, plus payroll runs that lock the period. These are file imports, not a live API push.
