ClockOut handles two or more locations by letting you define up to 20 work locations, each with its own address and geofence radius, on one company account. An employee can clock in at any active location, the clock-in is refused if they are outside all of them, and each punch stores the site it matched so managers can see where the shift happened. Multi-location is on the Pro plan at $39 a month for up to 5 people, then $6 per extra person, with no charge per location: a 20-person team across 3 sites pays $129 a month.
Set up each location with its own address and geofence
Locations live on the Locations page in the admin dashboard. Adding a site takes about a minute, and you can add up to 20.
- 01
Add the location
Give it a name your staff will recognize, such as Downtown or Warehouse 2. Search the street address and ClockOut drops a pin on the map, or click the map and drag the pin to the exact spot. The address is optional; the pin is what the fence is built around.
- 02
Set the radius
Each location has its own geofence radius, anywhere from 10 m to 10,000 m. The form starts at 100 m, and about 200 m covers a city block. A small storefront can be tight, a yard or job site can be wide, and the two do not have to match.
- 03
Staff clock in at whichever site they are at
Nobody is assigned to a single site for clocking in. At clock-in the phone’s position is checked against every active location, with a 50 m buffer on each radius. Inside any of them, the punch goes through and records that location. Outside all of them, the punch is refused with a message like “your phone puts you about 0.6 mi from Downtown.” Owners, admins, managers and anyone marked geofence-exempt skip the check.
- 04
Pause or retire a site
Mark a location inactive when it closes for the season and it stops accepting punches. Old entries keep the location name, so history still reads correctly.
Multi-location employee scheduling
ClockOut keeps one schedule for the whole company rather than a separate schedule per site. That is deliberate: the people who float between locations are the ones a per-site schedule loses track of. Once you have more than one active location, the admin schedule board gets a location filter, based on each person’s home site, alongside the group and role filters.
- Positions per location. A position (Register, Line, Front desk) can be tied to a location, so a shift at Downtown covers a Downtown position.
- Groups per site or crew. Put each site’s regulars in a named, colored group and filter the board to one crew at a time.
- Everything from Starter is included. Recurring schedules, open shifts, shift swaps, availability, shift confirmation and PTO that blocks scheduling all carry over to Pro. See employee scheduling for the full list.
- A chat channel per site. Team chat creates a channel for each active location, alongside the company-wide channel and direct messages.
Punches and reports by location
Every phone punch on Pro stores the location it matched. That shows up in three admin views:
- Activity feed. Each clock-in and clock-out lists the site it landed in, or the resolved address when it was outside every fence.
- Employee day detail. The timesheet detail for a person and a day names the location on each entry, next to breaks and the job code.
- Who’s in today. The live view labels each person with their home site so you can scan one location at a time.
What the reports page does not do yet
There is no report that totals hours or labor cost per location. If you need that split, name a job code after each site (job costing is on Starter and Pro): employees pick the code at clock-in, the reports page totals hours per job code over any date range, and the ClockOut CSV export carries a Job Code column. Pro also lets you set a weekly labor budget per location and compare it to scheduled hours and cost for the staff whose home site it is.
A kiosk tablet at every site
Kiosk mode is one link for your company, so you can open it on a tablet at each location. Staff clock in with a 4-digit PIN or by scanning their personal QR badge, and the same badge works at every site. Kiosk photo capture, when you turn it on, applies at all of them.
Be precise about one thing: a punch from the web kiosk is recorded as a kiosk punch, not tagged to a location, because a fixed tablet does not send GPS. If you need site-tagged punches, have staff clock in from their phones inside the fence. On Pro, device locks and IP locks let you approve each tablet and limit kiosk punches to your sites’ networks. Details are on QR badge kiosk clock-in and punch controls.
One payroll export for all sites
Payroll does not care how many locations you run, and neither does ClockOut. Pro adds payroll runs (draft, approve, lock, export) across the whole company, and the export files are formatted for RUN Powered by ADP, Gusto and QuickBooks Time, plus Xero and Sage earnings lines. One run, one file, every site.
The export rows are per employee with department and job code columns; there is no location column, which is another reason to use job codes if payroll needs a per-site split. ClockOut produces the file for you to import. It does not push data into those systems through an API.
When you should upgrade to Pro
The moment is usually the second location. Starter covers one fenced work area, and a business at 10 to 20 people that opens a second site finds that one fence either blocks the new crew or has to be turned off. Pro adds up to 20 fenced locations, payroll runs and payroll export formats, scoped roles, labor budgeting and the rest of the Pro list on pricing.
| Starter | Pro | |
|---|---|---|
| Price | $19/mo for up to 5, then $3 per person | $39/mo for up to 5, then $6 per person |
| Work locations with a geofence | 1 company-wide fence | Up to 20 |
| 10 people | $34 / month | $69 / month |
| 20 people | $64 / month | $129 / month |
| 30 people | $94 / month | $189 / month |
| 40 people | $124 / month | $249 / month |
| Annual billing | 20% off | 20% off |
| Payroll runs and provider export formats | ✗ | ✓ |
| Kiosk mode, job codes, groups, PTO | ✓ | ✓ |
Upgrading is a plan change in Settings, not a migration. Your people, timesheets and schedule stay where they are, and the company-wide fence keeps working while you add the new sites. Paid plans include a 14-day free trial.
ClockOut vs per-location pricing
Most multi-location time clocks charge per location. ClockOut charges a flat base for the first 5 people and a per-person rate after that, and the number of sites never changes the bill. The table uses list prices published on each vendor’s pricing page as of September 2026: Homebase at $30 per location per month and 7shifts at $44.99 per location per month, both before any add-ons.
| ClockOut Pro | Homebase | 7shifts | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pricing model | $39 for 5 people, then $6 each | $30 per location | $44.99 per location |
| 2 locations, 20 staff | $129 / month | $60 / month | $89.98 / month |
| 3 locations, 20 staff | $129 / month | $90 / month | $134.97 / month |
| 2 locations, 30 staff | $189 / month | $60 / month | $89.98 / month |
| 3 locations, 30 staff | $189 / month | $90 / month | $134.97 / month |
| Adding a 4th location | No change | +$30 / month | +$44.99 / month |
Read the numbers plainly. Per-location pricing wins when you have a few big sites: at 2 locations and 30 people, Homebase is cheaper on list price. Flat plus per-person wins when the team is small and spread out: 4 locations with 12 people is $81 a month on ClockOut Pro against $120 on Homebase. What ClockOut Pro includes at that price is a geofence per location, GPS-stamped punches tagged to the site, payroll runs with ADP, Gusto and QuickBooks formats, and the kiosk. Check what each tier of the others includes before you compare totals. The longer seven-app comparison is in the best time clock app for multiple locations.
Built for teams of 10 to 50 across 2 to 5 sites
ClockOut is built for small hourly teams, not for chains. Ten to fifty people across two to five sites is the shape it fits best: a second restaurant across town, a cleaning company with a few contracted buildings, a clinic with two offices, a retailer with a second storefront. The 20-location cap is generous for that size and keeps the phone’s fence check fast.
- Restaurants: two or three units, a kiosk by the back door at each, one payroll export.
- Cleaning companies: a fence per client building, so a punch in the parking lot of the wrong site does not count.
- Construction crews: a wide fence per active job site, retired when the job wraps.
Multi-location FAQ
Can one employee work at two locations?
Yes, with nothing to set up. Employees are not locked to a single site for clocking in. A punch is accepted inside any active location, and the entry records which one it was, so someone who opens at Downtown on Monday and closes at Westside on Tuesday gets both shifts tagged correctly. You can give each person a home site so the schedule board and the who’s-in view can filter by location.
Does each location get its own geofence?
Yes. Every location has its own pin and its own radius, anywhere from 10 m to 10,000 m, and a 50 m buffer is added on every check so a punch at the edge of the lot still works. A 40 m storefront and a 2,000 m job site can sit side by side on the same account. Multi-location fences are on Pro; Starter has one company-wide fence. How the GPS side works is on the GPS time clock page.
Can I see labor cost per location?
Not as a built-in report. The reports page totals hours and pay for the company and per job code, not per location, and the payroll export has no location column. The workaround most teams use is a job code per site: staff pick it at clock-in, the report totals hours by job code, and the CSV carries a Job Code column. Pro also lets you set a weekly labor budget per location and compare it to the scheduled hours and cost of the people whose home site it is.
Can a manager see only their own location?
Not today. On Pro you can scope a manager to a location or department, and that scope places them in that site’s chat channel and labels them on the who’s-in view, but managers still see and approve timesheets, schedules and requests for the whole company. There is no site-restricted manager view yet. If a site lead only needs to run the clock, give them the employee role and a kiosk tablet instead.
Does the kiosk work per site?
Yes. Kiosk mode is one link for the company, and you can open it on a tablet at every location. Each employee has one PIN and one QR badge that work at any site. Kiosk punches are recorded as kiosk punches and are not tagged to a location, since a wall tablet has no GPS. Phone clock-ins inside a fence are the ones that carry the site. Kiosk mode is on Starter and Pro.
Is multi-location on the Starter plan?
No. Starter ($19 a month for up to 5 people, then $3 each) includes one company-wide geofence. Multiple locations, each with its own fence, need Pro at $39 a month for up to 5 people, then $6 each, so $129 for 20 people and $189 for 30. Annual billing takes 20% off, and paid plans start with a 14-day free trial. Full detail is on pricing.
