Home care runs on visits. A caregiver shows up to a client’s address, works a shift, drives to the next one. If you can’t verify the visit started on time, ended on time, and happened at the right address, you can’t bill confidently, pay accurately, or sleep at night. ClockOut is built for that.
Where home care agencies leak money and trust
- Unverified visits. Did the caregiver actually arrive at 9:00 AM? Or 9:25? Without GPS, you have only their word.
- Paper visit logs. Lost, smudged, filled in from memory, and unbillable if the family disputes hours.
- Overtime surprises. Two caregivers, three clients, six visits a week, manual OT calculation is where mistakes get expensive.
- Clock-in disputes.Families question whether the caregiver really arrived on time. Without GPS and timestamps, it’s your word against theirs.
What ClockOut does for home care agencies
GPS-verified visit clock-in
Caregiver opens the app at the client’s door, taps clock in. We capture GPS coordinates and verify they’re inside the geofence you set for that client address. Every visit gets a timestamped, location-stamped record you can stand behind.
Per-client time allocation
Each visit is matched to the client’s address geofence and stamped with GPS, so hours are tied to the right client. End of week, you get a clean breakdown ready for billing.
Auto clock-out when the visit ends
If the agency turns on auto clock-out, ClockOut watches the client’s geofence while the caregiver is on the clock. Leave the area and, after a grace period you set, the visit closes automatically with an exception logged, so nobody forgets to clock out.
Mileage between visits
Caregivers drive from one client to the next all day. On the Pro plan, the mileage report estimates the miles between consecutive completed visits on the same day for each caregiver, computed as the straight-line distance between where they clocked out of one visit and clocked in at the next. Each leg lists the from and to addresses and the estimated miles, and the whole report exports to CSV to support reimbursement. It is a straight-line estimate, not a route or odometer reading, and same-site hops under 150 meters are ignored.
Automatic overtime and break compliance
Federal FLSA weekly overtime works automatically. On the Pro plan, the compliance pack lets you configure daily overtime thresholds, meal and rest break rules, and maximum hours. Missed meal breaks show up in the exception inbox before payroll.
Simple for every caregiver, even offline
Big buttons. Minimal logins. It runs in any phone browser and installs to the home screen, with no App Store or Play Store download. Inside a client’s home where signal drops, a clock-in or clock-out is saved on the phone and syncs automatically with its original tap time once signal returns. The app has to have been opened on that phone first, synced punches are flagged for you, a punch that could not be checked against the geofence is recorded and flagged for review rather than blocked, punches older than 48 hours are not accepted, and breaks need a connection. For buildings that block signal all day, an office kiosk tablet on wifi is still a dependable fallback for start and end of day.

FAQ
Is ClockOut EVV-compliant?
No. ClockOut is not a certified EVV system and does not integrate with state EVV aggregators. It records who clocked in, the GPS location and address, and the visit start and end times. If you bill Medicaid and your state requires certified EVV, use a certified system. For private-pay agencies, ClockOut’s location-stamped visit log is typically all the record keeping you need.
Can caregivers clock in without cell service?
Yes, for punches. If a caregiver has no signal at a client’s home, ClockOut saves the clock-in or clock-out on the phone and syncs it with its original tap time once signal returns. The app has to have been opened on that phone first, synced punches are flagged for you, a punch that could not be checked against the geofence is recorded and flagged for review rather than blocked, and punches older than 48 hours are not accepted. Breaks need a connection. Where a building blocks signal all day, an office kiosk tablet on wifi is a dependable fallback for start-of-day and end-of-day sign in and out.
How does auto clock-out work?
If your agency turns it on, ClockOut checks the caregiver’s position against the client’s geofence about once a minute while they’re on the clock. If they leave and don’t return within the grace period you set, the visit closes automatically and an exception is logged.
What if a caregiver doesn't own a smartphone?
Use kiosk mode: provide a low-cost tablet at the agency office for shift sign-in/out at start and end of day. For mid-day GPS visit verification, a phone is needed. Most caregivers have one, we’ve found resistance is rare once they see the app.
Does it handle live-in or 24-hour shifts?
Yes. Long shifts are supported. Meal-break deductions can be tracked, and the Pro compliance pack lets you configure overtime and break rules that vary by state for live-in workers.
What does it cost for a 15-caregiver agency?
$45/month on Starter, $75/month on Pro (adds the compliance pack). See pricing.
